Fishing in the Key West Harbor is a unique fishery. No other place in the world do you have the possibility to catch a 100 pound tarpon, a 20 pound permit, or a 25 pound cobia all on the same drift. Fishing in the harbor consists of chumming up-current of a school of tarpon, then drifting cut bait into the school of feeding fish. The average tarpon in the harbor weighs about 65 to 70 pounds. Catching tarpon over 100 pounds is not uncommon with an occasional slob close to 200 pounds. Fishing in the harbor can provide lots of action. Snapper, Barracudas, sharks, cobia, permit, grouper, mackerel and others can all be caught fishing in the Key West harbor.
